Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what Pathshaala (a Lykke Technologies product) collects when you use pathshaala.ai, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices you have. We collect the minimum needed to run a reading and study product — no ad tracking, no selling of personal data.

1. Information we collect

Account & identity

Name, email, and an optional class when you register. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from your Google account — never your Google password.

Study activity

Reading progress (current page per book) is saved to your account so you can resume across devices. Bookmarks, notes, reading preferences, theme, and language live in your browser's local storage and stay on your device.

Instructor applications

If you apply for instructor access we store your institution, your optional note, application status, and review timestamps. Edits instructors make to wiki sections are attributed to their account email.

Transactional email

We send email only when you trigger it: password resets, instructor application notifications, and instructor decisions. We do not send marketing email.

2. Where your data is stored

• • Database: MongoDB (accounts, progress, wikis, instructor status).
• • Files: AWS S3 (us-west-1) for textbook assets and rendered pages.
• • Servers: AWS EC2 (us-west-1) and AWS Amplify/CloudFront for the web app.

3. AI providers & what we send them

Wiki generation sends textbook page text and images to AI providers — currently Google Gemini and OpenAI — to produce summaries, quizzes, study guides, and visual explainers. Your personal data (name, email, progress, notes) is not sent to AI providers. Generated wikis are stored in our database and shown to all readers.

4. Cookies & local storage

We use local storage for your session token, cached profile, theme, language, and reading preferences. One short-lived cookie is set during Google sign-in to protect against cross-site request forgery. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

5. Your rights

• • Access & correction: your profile is editable in the app; for anything else, email us.
• • Deletion: email us to delete your account and associated personal data.
• • Local data: clearing your browser storage removes on-device notes, bookmarks, and preferences.

Children's privacy

Pathshaala is designed for school students. We collect only the minimum account data needed; parents or guardians can contact us about a student's account at any time.

Security & retention

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes; password-reset and review links are single-use and expire. We retain account data while your account is active and delete it on verified request.
